Robert Hesketh

 

A freelance writer & photographer with a strong interest in local history. Writes regularly for Devon Life magazine & has published a variety of books on Devon, Cornwall & Dartmoor.

Philip Payton

 

Professor of Cornish & Australian studies at the  University of Exeter & author of numerous books & articles on related topics.

 

Tim Jenkinson

 

Co-author of the recent book on Toll-houses of South Devon, County representative of the Milestone Society, & a regular contributor over many years to the Dartmoor magazine on a diverse range of historical topics.

 

James Paxman

 

Chief Executive/ Hon. Secretary of the Dartmoor Preservation Association.

Terry Faull

 

A landscape historian & author of the book "Holy Wells of Cornwall", regularly writes, lectures & leads field trips exploring aspects of the countryside in Devon & Cornwall.

 

Dr. Tom Greeves

 

Archaeologist & local author, lectures on Dartmoor & tin mining, both academic & popular

 

 

Jill Drysdale

 

Background of a Masters Degree in Local & Regional History - regularly works on projects & gives talks on a wide variety of family & local history matters. Volunteer consultant at the Museum Study Centre in Totnes.

 

 

Dr. Chris Smart

 

University of Exeter Archaeology department - led the excavation of the Roman fort at Calstock in 2008

 

 

Helen Harris

 

Author of several books including the classic Industrial Archaeology of Dartmoor first published in 1968. Qualifications in Agriculture & Dairying & worked as a Ministry of Agriculture Dairy Adviser in Devon in the post war years.

 

 

EVENTS

Talks are usually held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at Meavy Village Hall. Outdoor visits and walks take place in the summer at various locations in the area.

The journal is published every year where possible, provided we have enough contributions from the members.
